The Revival Call

Hello all Chem Junta...

The darkness of ignorance is engulfing the world... there is no hope around... only despair reigns everywhere... in this hour of gloom, the world looks to you all; the Warriors of the Light, to come forward and bring back the light of wisdom and knowledge to swallow this darkness...

It is time once again to reinstate the rule of the just over the unjust, light over darkness, hope over despair, friendship over enmity, faith over doubt and love over hatred...

Calling the inspired writer to inspire us with his masterly pieces....

This is the call for the revival of the Chem Junta... I am sure it won't go unanswered..

Hail Chem Junta!

The Pi Day

Today, that is the 14th of March, at 1:59pm the world celebrated the "Pi Day" in tribute to the popular greek constant whose value is 3.14159 (approximated to 5 decimal places)..

so how does one celebrate the Pi Day?? People like us whose lives are so much influenced by this constant must spare a minute in reverence of its power... we can also draw a lot of circles and appreciate the power of the Pi that is manifest in each of the spherical forms..

for me, the Pi Day was quite eventful. It was the day of return to lukkha, since my comp was working once again after three weeks... spent a lot of time on the net, especially on orkut and blogger... read through the entire long post of ak, completed reading angels and demons (awesome book man, must read!) and ended the day with bumps for dear dasu!

thankfully, holi has brought a very relaxing break from the lectures and there is nothing other than btp for the week ahead... so keep finding me commenting and posting out here...

Happy Holi to all Junta!

Sabby.

Food and Festivals

“Rang barse bheege chunar waali rang barse,
Bheege bani kaa yaar balam tarse rang barse”

How many times have we heard this song? Ever Holi ‘Chitrahaar or Rangoli’ or both would have a list of songs being played, which normally doesn’t change. New songs come and go, but a few legends like this remain.

But as usual I start with something too far away from, what I wish to talk about in my blog. The only thing common between the beginning and the issue dealt is ‘Rang’.
We Indians boast one of the most colorful societies in this world. I won’t go to the extent of universe, because it hasn’t been verified that earth is the only planet with life and movies like star wars, ET and many more exobiologist on a probability based analysis try to prove that in this continuously expanding universe, we shouldn’t be alone.

Who would like to be alone, esp. us Indians. I don’t think there would be people any where in the world who can make friends even while traveling in trains, with moms discussing recipes of new achaar, chunnu munnu playing together and uncle jee’s talking about our dearest Laloo Prasad Yadav. So being alone in the universe is unthinkable, who would give company during, space travels!!

[Note: All the arguments and analysis here on in next few paragraphs is based on my desi perception of west as I haven’t yet had any opportunity to visit and videshi land.]

But what is this colorful society all about and why do I claim that we Indians are more colourful than westerners?

Well, there are lots of things that make us Indians a whole lot different than our western counterparts.

Hum log laal mirch khate hain, aur woh log kaali mirch. How boring is that kind of food with so less variety such less usage of spices, especially in my case since my mom can cook and cook well, vegetarian food from any where in the country.

Don’t take it seriously, but there is logic in the last line I wrote. I would go by vedic Indian arguments to prove that. The food that we eat is divided into three categories:

  • Satoguni: Most simple food comprising of natural things kandmool phal etc. I think cooking is permitted.
  • Rajoguni: Oily food including onions and Lehsun and things that smell a lot.
  • Tamoguni: all non vegetarian food, alcohol etc.

Now according to the logic, the kind of food that we eat has a big influence on the way we behave and live.

Let’s compare the kind of food that we eat. If we take a look at the map of India, Rajasthan and Punjab are the two centers of some serious greasy food. And both the states are known for there rich culture, life style. Even the dresses that people wear are the most colourful and ornamented ones. How can we forget the auntijee’s wearing such heavy jewellery studded sarees and what not. Although the reasons could be to prove their husbands superiority or ‘jalan’ factor. “Ajee sunte ho, aaj woh verma jee kee misses kee saaree dekhi tumne, Badi khush ho ho kar dikha rahe thi sabko”, and you can very well image what Mr. verma would be thinking about?

South Indian culture is an example of simplicity and sober living which gadhiji preached all his life. And if we have a close look at there dressing pattern we find that Mr. P Chidambaram won’t hesitate to present the budget of biggest democracy of the world in a lungi and shirt.( No offences). But that is not even a hypothetical possibility of Mr. Jaswant Singh who comes from a royal family in Rajasthan.

So what I wish to conclude is that South Indian food is much simpler, lesser variety, less spicy at times very similar to western food.

[Point to ponder: Although the food that we eat varies around the world varies like anything. To take an example some people eat rice, some others wheat, some eat chappatis of Potato. But in terms of nutrition content it doesn’t vary more than 2-3 %]

The number of festivals that we have in India is highest. And a cliché sums it all

For all 365 days in year, we Indians have at least one festival”, Here the more important part is ‘at least one’

Now let’s compare Indian scenario with western kind of a situation. I am surprised, when I see everyone wearing the same ‘coat-suit’ on a marriage. (Bore nahin hota kya yaar who log ??) Marriages in India showcases best of the clothes with all kinds of variety that every man and woman has on his wardrobes as I have already told you about Mr. and Mrs. Verma.

Any ways western clothing has one more important part, ‘Skin’, which we Indians are slowly adopting to, but we are still far away from it.

Ab Back to HOLI, festival of colours, and believe me, if you don’t play holi….I PITY YOU.

Rangon kee is bahar mein, to murde bhi zinda ho jaate hain,

Tum kyun door se aisa murjhye hue dekhte ho,

AAjao saath hamare is dhamal mein tum bhi shaamil ho jaao.

So feel proud being an Indian and enjoy the festival of colours. And next time when you eat something greasy, take all these factors into consideration (Although it is only possible if you aren’t a girl, who is trying to get skinny, sexy and whatever to impress, obviously not me!!)

Don’t forget to Colour all your friends, it would be great if you do that to your enemies as well.

The new beginning...

it had been a long time since i was able to blog.. and that was because my comp had fallen into coma.. kuch display hi nahi karta tha.. maine give-up maar diya tha ki ab yeh fir kuch na kar paayega.. but today is a special day.. i have been able to make my comp work again, and how?

just by putting my RAM in a different socket! this only goes to show that the most complex problems often have very simple and straight-forward solutions...

i am feeling a lot more lukkha once again after two taxing weeks preparing for the ChEA Symposium... had a lot of expectations, but the crowd turnout was too poor.. :(

it felt a little disappointing, but then who said all efforts are rewarded in the way u expect them to be? it was a wonderful experience organizing the event and it has taught me loads of lessons... it was a commendable effort considering that our team comprised only a handful of people..

now that its all over, i am back into lukkha mode... though i have got to do my btp, i will still find some time to spend out here..

hope to get a lot more posts in the coming days...

Macabre midsems..

The two day break in the midsems was very eventful for me since i spent the whole of tuesday at pune with jhatu, dosi and bajju.. and most of wednesday, i was busy sleeping and dreaming.. in the evening i came to terms with the grave situation at hand.. there were two midsems today and i had no clue of either subject..

the most instinctive reaction in such a scenario is to seek help from the best student in class... daga in this case.. so i went to him in the evening and lo.. he cleared all fundaes within an hour and a half... and i was all elated that i understand advanced process synthesis very well... i came back to hostel and spent time lukkhaing around.. i also tried my hand at problems and found them routine stuff.. but it was not to be...

and when i realised that, i was in the examination hall in the morning.. finding myself clueless on each and every question in the paper.. but then, there i was struggling to get some clue and i was unable to remember even the basic steps.. i finally ended up expecting a pure zero on hundred and was all depressed... it was one of the totally hopeless days of my life and certainly the most forgettable one.. unless there is some miracle in the remaining 10 hours..:-)

well, the bit of advice that i would like to give here is that if u take an elective out of the so-called interest, then do study it well.. else u will end up screwing it like i did today..

The wise ones

When sabby created and invited me for this blog the first thing that struck me was the title....."The wisdom of chem junta"

Then my thoughts took me to a more holistic question. Why do we actually consider ourselves as wise???
Why do i go to a more holistic perspective....all the blame goes to the GD practice i have done in which the person giving feedback tells you " You people confine yourself to more obvious things...think big...think all around the topic". But that makes you like a circumference missing the centre.

How easy and peaceful life is without all this wisdom, intelligence. How great it is be a child. It probably is my insecurity of getting out of this shell of iit(which has given me shelter and saved me from all my worries for 4 years) which takes hold of me when i say all that.
The only thing that comes to my mind is an old song

"Hum bhi agar bacche hote naam hamara hota gablu shablu, khane ko milte laddu, aur duniya kehti Happy birth day to you"

It may not make much sense to the people who havent heard the song..which is actually a good one.

So as freud said when we feel uncomfortable or vulnurable we sleep curled up because thats the way we were in the womb of mother.
Probably ture...These are the days when i want to run away from everything else Not be wise, responsible......Just craving for the olden days....

Now that we're here....

its definitely a noble idea to start such a group activity, now that we have achieved the laurels of creative ideas like the insti famous BSF.. and the subsequent bakar-acious activities, we must venture into the IT domain.
but what about the lethal nature of the FP(farting potential) that some of us are heavily endowed with...?? would such talents be allowed to further hone their skills??

Welcome note..

Hello all!

This blog has been the noble idea of the inspired writer amongst us (the introspective ak!)..
The aim of this blog is to bring together the wonderful brains in our chem engg 02 batch and document their wisdom for the future generations of homo sapiens likely to inhabit this planet..

The knowledge and wisdom shared here will be available to anyone who seeks it... so all of u are welcome to come over and make urselves better than u ever imagined to be!
Good idea Sabby. We expect loads of post from the Proiitan :-P
